Coconut oil is considered one of the best ‘delicious, nutritious, cheap’ beauty methods trusted and widely used by women. Therefore, coconut oil is produced and bottled widely on the market.
However, those are often industrial products that contain a lot of impurities and chemicals. You can make pure coconut oil at home with the following simple steps.
Method 1
First, prepare 1 kg of grated coconut, 400 ml of boiling water, 1 strainer and 1 pot. Grind the grated coconut and soak it in boiling water, stir evenly, and let it sit for 15 – 20 minutes. Then, use a strainer to remove the pulp and extract the coconut milk. After filtering, pour the coconut milk into the pot and bring it to a boil. When the oil boils, turn down the heat and stir with your hands to prevent the coconut milk from sticking to the bottom of the pot. If the water dries up, continue stirring so that the coconut oil flows out.
After boiling for a while, you will see the coconut oil layer gradually appear. Continue simmering the oil on low heat until the coconut pulp turns golden brown. Turn off the heat and filter the shiny golden coconut oil layer on top, and you have the desired amount of coconut oil.
Method 2
Instead of boiling the filtered coconut milk like in Method 1, after obtaining the coconut milk, pour it into a glass jar, seal it, and let it sit for about 1 day in a ventilated place.
After 1 day, you will see a layer of coagulated substance on the surface. Put this glass jar in the refrigerator to solidify the layer. Use a spoon to gently scoop out this hard layer, and you will get pure coconut oil underneath.

Making coconut oil at home is a simple process that requires only a few ingredients and tools. You will need about 4-5 mature coconuts, a knife, a blender, a stove, a pot, a bowl, and a container to store the oil.
The first step is to extract the coconut meat from the shells. Using a knife, carefully pry open the coconuts and remove the white meat inside.
After removing the meat, cut it into small pieces and add it to a blender. Blend the coconut pieces with a small amount of warm water until a smooth, white liquid is formed. This liquid is known as coconut milk.
Pour the coconut milk into a pot and place it on the stove over medium heat. Stir the milk continuously as it heats up. As the water evaporates, the oil will start to separate and float to the top. This process usually takes about 30-45 minutes.
Once the oil has separated, remove the pot from the heat and allow it to cool down. Carefully pour the mixture into a bowl, being careful not to disturb the oil. The oil will solidify as it cools, making it easier to collect. Simply scoop it out with a spoon and store it in an airtight container.
Homemade coconut oil can last for several months if stored properly in a cool, dry place. It is a versatile oil that can be used for cooking, baking, skin and hair care, and even as a natural remedy for various ailments.
