Salt and Its Different Forms: Understanding the Difference

In folk culture, salt is commonly referred to as “salt for eating.” Salt is a crystalline solid that comes in various colors, including pink, gray, and white, depending on the region and type. However, the most common form is white salt.

The primary components of salt are Sodium and Chloride (NaCl), with trace amounts of other minerals. Salt consists of 40% Sodium and 60% Chloride.

Hence, salt contains Sodium.

Sodium Salt

Sodium Salt is a combination of the mineral Sodium and various compounds, naturally present in food or added during production. Therefore, it is not technically salt or table salt.

Sodium Salt enters the body in two different ways: as an additive in food and as a naturally occurring component in certain foods.

There are several forms of Sodium Salt, including:

+ Sodium Sulfate, the Sodium salt of sulfuric acid, is used in manufacturing detergents.

+ Sodium Nitrate, used in fertilizers and fireworks.

+ Sodium Salt is also found in Microlax®, a medication for constipation and gynecological issues, and Baking Soda.
