1 What’s New in the Latest Passport Design?
According to Circular 73 by the Ministry of Public Security, which stipulates the designs of passports, travel documents, and related forms, there are several key features outlined in Article 2:
- The outer cover of the passport will feature the country’s name, coat of arms, and the word “Passport” in both Vietnamese and English.
- The internal pages of the passport will showcase beautiful landscapes and cultural heritage sites of Vietnam, such as Ha Long Bay, the Dragon House, and the Hung Temple, along with traditional drum patterns.
- The passport will be bilingual, featuring both Vietnamese and English.
- For passports with embedded electronic chips, a chip symbol will be printed on the back cover.

- There are three types of passports: diplomatic, official, and ordinary. Each passport will have 48 pages, including the cover, except for ordinary passports with a validity of less than 12 months, which will have 12 pages.
- The passport cover is made of durable synthetic plastic, ensuring long-lasting use.
- The three types of passports are distinguished by their cover colors: diplomatic passports are reddish-brown, official passports are dark green, and ordinary passports are purple.

2 Where Can I Get a New Passport?
According to Article 15 of the 2019 Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Vietnamese Citizens, the competent authority for issuing passports is the Exit and Entry Management Department of the Provincial Public Security, based on your place of permanent or temporary residence.
Individuals applying for a passport must provide personal photos, identification cards, and documents proving their place of permanent or temporary residence. Applications can be submitted online or in person at the relevant authority.
The fee for a new passport is 200,000 VND, while the fee for a replacement due to loss or damage is 400,000 VND.
Where to get a new passport?
Note:
– Individuals aged 14 and above can choose between a passport with or without an electronic chip, depending on their needs.
– For those under 14 years of age, passports will not have an electronic chip.
