It’s a fact that no matter how careful you are about washing dishes, we often neglect one hard-to-clean area: the bottom of pots and pans. Over time, if stains are allowed to build up, they become increasingly difficult to remove. There are also several reasons why the bottom of your pans may become stained and discolored, seemingly beyond recovery.
But if you want to know how to make them shine like new again, read on!

There are many ways to clean pots and pans, but doing so without damaging the cooking surface, especially for induction cooktops, is no easy feat.
Medical masks are a familiar item to most people and are used regularly in daily life. However, these masks have a hidden superpower you may not know about. Medical masks can be used to effectively clean the bottoms of pots and pans without causing scratches, unlike steel wool that requires vigorous scrubbing in the hope of removing stubborn stains.
1. What You’ll Need:
– White vinegar
– Baking soda
– Dish soap
– Salt
– Medical masks

Gather all the items needed to clean the bottom of your pots and pans with a medical mask.
2. Instructions:
– Mix white vinegar and baking soda
Combining these two creates a chemical reaction that quickly softens built-up grime on the bottom of your cookware. After mixing, pour the solution onto the bottom of your pot or pan and let it sit for a few minutes.
– Add dish soap
Pour a sufficient amount of dish soap into the mixture. Soap acts as a lubricant and is excellent at cutting through grease, making it easier to tackle the grime.
– Sprinkle salt onto the surface
Salt provides extra abrasion in its granular form, making it easier to scrub away stubborn stains.
– Scrub with a medical mask
Now, use the medical mask to scrub the bottom of your cookware. Follow these steps:
+ Fold the mask in half, then fold the sides together and tie it securely—you now have a simple cleaning cloth.
+ Use this makeshift cloth to scrub away.

Twist the mask as shown and vigorously scrub the bottom of your pot or pan after it has been soaked in the cleaning mixture.
3. Important Notes:
– Never soak iron or aluminum pans in dish soap for too long.
– After cleaning, pour about a spoonful of oil and a teaspoon of salt into the pan. Then, vigorously rub the pan with a paper towel until it’s spotless.
– Avoid using abrasive scrubbing methods on enameled or flat-bottomed cookware for induction cooktops. Doing so may scratch or dull the surface, rendering it unusable on induction stoves.
– Minimize the use of steel wool pads as they can scratch the surface and create crevices for grime to cling to.
– Ammonia-based pot and pan cleaners can cause pitting and warping of your cookware.
– Avoid using specialized stainless steel cleaners with strong alkalis, as they may cause discoloration.
– Chlorine will corrode aluminum and cause discoloration. Even if you can’t remove stains as desired, do not use this chemical to clean your cookware.
Most importantly, to keep the bottom of your pots and pans clean, it’s best to clean them immediately after cooking. This prevents food residue and stains from setting in and makes maintenance a breeze.
