A refrigerator is a food preservation device that helps extend the shelf life of cooked or raw foods. In fact, its effects are much more than that. Many people use the freezer to care for, clean, and smooth clothes.

Unexpected uses of the freezer for clothes

If you want to test the effectiveness of the refrigerator clothing care measures introduced below, clear out a compartment in the freezer and clean it first.

Flatten silk items

Silk is a thin, smooth material that wrinkles easily and should not be flattened directly with an iron. You can use the refrigerator trick to flatten silk towels and clothes in the following way: Spray water evenly on the silk item, put it in a nylon bag, and store it in the freezer.

A few minutes later, you take it out and iron it. The clothes will be extremely smooth and much easier to flatten, reducing the effect of heat on this fragile material. If possible, you should use a steam iron.

Clean jeans

If your favorite and most comfortable blue jeans are fading, don’t wash them too often. Instead, occasionally “freeze” these pants to experience another unexpected use of the freezer with clothes.

Why put jeans in the freezer? This will help remove the odor from your pants. Every time you wear jeans, the sweat secreted causes bacteria to grow and cause odor. Usually, you have to wash to remove this unpleasant odor, causing the pants to wear out quickly and fade. If you put your pants in the freezer, the bacteria will be destroyed and the unpleasant odor will be greatly reduced.

Helps sweaters not lose hair

Even though sweaters are made from fine fur, they will still lose hair if washed many times in a row. If you wash a sweater with other clothes, these tiny hairs will stick to them, looking very unsightly.

To improve the shedding condition of your sweater, put the sweater in a zip bag and put it in the freezer for a few hours. The cold of the freezer will “glue” the wool fibers together and shedding will decrease.

Remove gum from clothes

When your clothes are stained with chewing gum, put the item in the freezer. Low temperatures will weaken the bonds between molecules, cold gum will also freeze and you can easily remove it from your clothes. You can do the same with gum-stained shoes.

Makes tights more durable

There are tights that tear easily even when you’re putting them on for the first time, which is disappointing. But that’s because you don’t know how to increase the durability of tights.

Before wearing new tights, wash them under running water, wring out all the water, and put them in the freezer. The next day, dry the tights at room temperature and then use them. This way, the tights will be more durable and will not tear easily. You only need to do it once when you first buy the pants and that’s enough.
