Turn on the fan and air conditioning: Many think it uses a lot of electricity, but the surprising truth

Many people believe that using both an air conditioner and a fan at the same time will consume more electricity. However, this is not true.

Air conditioning and electric fan are two popular cooling devices used in households. During peak hot days, these devices often operate at full power and consume a large amount of electricity.

Many people believe that using both a fan and an air conditioner will result in high electricity consumption. Therefore, most people use these devices separately, meaning if they use a fan, they turn off the air conditioner, and if they use the air conditioner, they turn off the fan.

However, this is not the correct approach. Using an air conditioner in combination with a fan does not waste as much electricity as you might think. Furthermore, according to the announcement from the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), using a combination of air conditioning and electric fans helps cool the room faster, with the cold air spreading evenly in the room, reducing the risk of overload and fire.

Using a Fan and Air Conditioner Simultaneously: Faster Cooling and Even Air Distribution

An air conditioner cools the room by sucking in air, passing it through a filtering system, and cooling it before returning the cold air back into the room. It takes some time for the cold air to spread evenly throughout the room.

Therefore, using a fan in combination with an air conditioner helps distribute the airflow evenly throughout the room more quickly.

When using an air conditioner combined with a fan, there is no need to set the air conditioner at an excessively low temperature, which helps protect health.

Using a Fan and Air Conditioner Simultaneously: Reducing Power Load and Preventing Fire Hazards

Normally, the lower the air conditioning temperature and the colder the air, the higher the operating power and the more electricity it consumes. This can cause overload and excessive power consumption over time, increasing the risk of fire.

Therefore, using a fan in combination with an air conditioner not only cools the room faster but also saves electricity.

According to EVN’s recommendation, households should set the air conditioner at 27 degrees Celsius, combined with a fan to cool the room, especially during peak hours from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM and 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Using a fan in combination with an air conditioner also helps improve air circulation in the room, reducing dry skin and temperature imbalances.

Other Considerations When Using an Air Conditioner in the Summer

Keep the Room Relatively Sealed

Rooms with air conditioning must be relatively sealed to avoid heat loss and electricity waste. Of course, you should still choose a cool time of day to turn off the air conditioner, open the room door, and facilitate better airflow.

Limit Direct Sunlight into the Room

If the room has large windows, it is best to close the curtains to block direct sunlight. Sunlight can raise the room temperature and make it feel hotter. When this happens, using an air conditioner or a fan will not be very effective.

Moderate Fan Speed

When using a fan in combination with an air conditioner, you only need to choose a moderate fan speed. Set the fan to medium or to create a gentle breeze, avoiding any health implications, especially for rooms with elderly people and young children.
