Uncovering the Wonders of Lemon for Kitchen Cleaning and Deodorizing

Did you know that limes can be used to clean and deodorize kitchen utensils? While limes are commonly used for cooking and beverage-making in almost every household refrigerator, not everyone is aware that these citrus fruits can also do the job of cleaning and freshening up kitchen items.

Sister Vu Thuy Hang (35 years old in Sweden) shares some methods for using lime to effectively and affordably eliminate odors from kitchen utensils.

1. Use lime to eliminate foul smell and greasy oil in the microwave

The microwave often develops a foul odor after heating food, especially dishes with strong spices. Additionally, the grease from the food can become stuck on the microwave’s interior. A simple solution is to take 1 glass of filtered water (do not fill it completely), squeeze half a lime into the glass, and add the squeezed lime peel. Place the lime water glass in the microwave and heat it for 3 minutes. This method effectively eliminates odors and makes it easier to clean the grease.

2. Eliminate refrigerator odors

The refrigerator is prone to developing unpleasant odors due to the variety of foods stored inside. To freshen the air and eliminate odors, simply cut a few slices of fresh lime and place them in a small dish inside the refrigerator compartment.

3. Use lime to prepare fish and clean cutting boards

When preparing fish, lime can be used instead of vinegar and salt to reduce the fishy smell. Washing fish with lime helps make it cleaner and less fishy. After handling fish, thoroughly rub hands with lime to remove the smell. Lime is also effective for cleaning cutting boards. After using the cutting board for raw meat or fish, clean it with dishwashing liquid and then rub the surface with a quarter of a lime to eliminate any lingering fishy odor.

4. Use lime to eliminate blender odors

Blenders can retain food smells even after thorough cleaning. To eliminate odors, add water, approximately 3 teaspoons of baking soda, and half a lime to the blender. Blend the mixture for about 3 minutes and then let it soak for another 10 minutes. Afterward, pour out the mixture and clean the blender as usual.

Dried lime peels can also be burned in an essential oil burner to eliminate odors in the kitchen or bathroom. Alternatively, boil thin slices of lime in water and place lime water bowls in areas that need odor elimination. This method is also highly effective.
