Ms. Vo Thi Thanh Thao, a 30-year-old resident of Ho Chi Minh City, recently shared her secrets and tips for quick, convenient, and delicious office meals with Thanh Nien. She and her husband prefer home-cooked meals and bring packed lunches to work every day. Ms. Thao emphasizes the importance of cooking according to her family’s taste and ensuring cleanliness and safety. Additionally, the couple divides tasks, with the wife handling cooking duties while the husband takes care of other miscellaneous tasks and the children. This arrangement allows them to avoid rushing in the mornings and ensures they have a satisfying packed lunch to bring to work.
“I marinate the food in advance the night before and wake up early to cook,” she shared. Due to her busy work schedule, Ms. Thao often buys groceries at the end of the week and divides them into small portions before storing them in the freezer. This approach allows her to save time and enhance the flavor of the food. To keep the rice warm until noon, she pours hot water under the lunch box.
“I often search the internet for menu ideas from other people and then customize them to fit our family’s situation,” she explained. Due to having a young child, she values time efficiency. While they occasionally eat out, both Mrs. Thao and her husband prefer home-cooked meals. They typically repeat the main dish throughout the day, only changing the soup or vegetables in the evening. Mrs. Thao primarily cooks in the morning so she can spend quality time with her child in the evening.
One of their favorite dishes is rolled rice. Mrs. Thao wakes up at 5am to cook the rice and then washes and soaks the vegetables in saltwater. After blanching and draining the vegetables, she stir-fries each type with sauces like oyster sauce, soy sauce, and broth cubes. Once the rice is cooked, she rolls it up and puts it in a lunch box to bring to work.
“I wake up early to exercise and prepare three meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Starting the day early also contributes to my overall health, and I no longer stay up late,” she revealed.
