Leggings are a type of tight-fitting pants that come in different thicknesses and are usually made of spandex, leather, or cotton material. Despite their simple design, leggings are favored by many women for their comfort, versatility, and ability to enhance their figure.
Leggings can be worn for various occasions, from going to school, hanging out, going to work, to working out, as long as you pair them with appropriate tops. So why shouldn’t you wear leggings on an airplane when they are both stylish and convenient?
Why shouldn’t you wear leggings on an airplane?
According to Christine Negroni, author of a book about the world’s most mysterious aviation disasters, leggings can be deadly or leave scars if there is an incident or fire on the plane. Christine Negroni said in The Sun: “Many people like to wear leggings or workout pants on airplanes because they are stretchy, but these garments are made of synthetic fibers, which are highly flammable in the event of a fire.”

In addition, leggings are usually tight and clingy, so if your flight lasts for many hours, they can restrict your movements, impede blood circulation, and cause you to have cramps.
The waistband of leggings can squeeze your waist and abdomen, and if the flight is long, you may experience bloating, which is extremely uncomfortable. That’s also why you shouldn’t wear leggings on an airplane.
Other clothing items you shouldn’t wear on an airplane
In addition to leggings, here are some other clothing items that are not recommended for wearing on an airplane:
Tight clothes: Avoid wearing clothes that are tight-fitting or uncomfortable when traveling by plane as they can restrict blood circulation and make you feel tense, uncomfortable, or short of breath due to the small and confined space.
Jumpsuits: Although jumpsuits look beautiful and comfortable, you should also avoid wearing them on an airplane because putting them on and taking them off can be complicated and not suitable for the cramped space on the plane, especially when you need to use the restroom while wearing a jumpsuit.
Clothing with metal zippers and accessories: Wearing items like these can be inconvenient when going through metal detectors at the airport, which can slow down the movement process.
High-heeled shoes: These types of shoes can hinder your activities such as picking up luggage or make it difficult for you to move around different locations in the airport. In case of an emergency evacuation, moving with high-heeled shoes will not be as fast as with regular shoes or sandals.
To have the safest and most comfortable flight, you should choose to wear simple and comfortable outfits such as T-shirts, loose linen pants, or joggers made of linen or cotton material. It is best to wear sneakers, which are both comfortable and easy to walk in.
