1. How to Make Spiral Paper Roses
Common Materials for Making Roses:
- Crepe paper strips at least 40 cm long
- Crepe paper
- Binding thread
- Thread
- Tape
- Fabric tape
Instructions:
Step 1: First, fold the crepe paper diagonally for the first time, folding it over by 1-1.5 cm.

Step 2: Continue to fold diagonally, perpendicular to the edge of the paper, with a width of about 2-2.5 cm.

Hold the paper with your left hand, and fold the folded part upwards with your right hand.

Step 3: Continue to fold the paper down as shown above.

Repeat the previous action: hold with your left hand and bend the paper upwards with your right hand.

Do this continuously until you reach the end of the paper strip.

Step 4: When you reach the end of the strip, twist and tighten the last edge to prevent the paper from unraveling. You can use candle wax to secure the paper. Start rolling the twisted paper into a circle, arranging the twisted edges side by side to form the petals of the rose.

Step 5: After you’ve rolled the entire strip to form the rose, hold the stem tightly and wrap thread or string around it several times, tying it securely to prevent the flower from unraveling.

Then, adjust the rose petals to be evenly spaced, bending them slightly to make the flower look more natural.
Step 6: Make the stem. Insert a wire stem directly into the flower’s calyx. Use a pen to draw a leaf shape on green crepe paper, then cut it out along the outline.
Use light green paper to make the flower receptacle. Fold it and cut one end to a point. Cut the receptacle longer so that it can cover the entire stem when glued.
Apply milk glue to the receptacle and attach it to the flower’s stem. Use wax tape to cover the paper part of the receptacle, and you’re done!

If you’re making a large bouquet and want to expose the stems, wrap them with green ribbon or green crepe paper. If you’re attaching the flower to a basket, the stems will be hidden, so you can skip this step.
Depending on the length of the crepe paper you cut, you can make roses of different sizes. Feel free to experiment with the size and shape of the petals to create a diverse bouquet with both budding and fully bloomed roses.
And there you have it! A beautiful rose made with spiral-twisted crepe paper.
How to Make Layered Paper Roses
This style of rose involves carefully layering crepe paper petals from the inside out to create a full bloom.
Materials:
- In addition to crepe paper, milk glue, and thread, you’ll need the following:
- Stem wire
- Wire cutters
- Scissors for shaping the petals
Instructions:
Step 1: Fold a piece of crepe paper in half to form a rectangle. Then, cut a curved shape at one end to create a natural curve for the petals.

Step 2: Cut a 2 cm slit in the center of each petal to prevent the layers from bunching up when rolled.

Step 3: Repeat Step 2 for the remaining petals. Remember to make each rectangle slightly smaller than the previous one to create smaller petals. Fold the paper in half and cut a curved shape at one end.
Step 4: Take the stem wire and bend one end to form a loop. To make the flower’s receptacle larger and more rounded, use the leftover paper from cutting the petals. Fold it in half and secure it to the bent end of the wire with thread. Alternatively, you can use fabric or cotton to stuff the receptacle and make it fuller.

Step 5: Take the innermost petal and stretch the center of the paper. When stretching, use only the fleshy part of your thumbs to create a natural curve without creases in the center. This technique will make the flower look more natural.

Step 6: Wrap this petal around the wired receptacle and secure it with thread.

Step 7: For the second and subsequent layers, use smaller petals. Stretch each petal before attaching it, or stretch it after attaching it. The second layer consists of two petals placed opposite each other, rolled, and secured with thread.

To make the outer layers neater and more secure, use milk glue to attach the petals instead of thread. This will also hide the thread and create a cleaner look.
Step 8: For the third layer, use three petals. Stretch the center of each petal, then bend the tips on one or both sides, or bend them evenly. Place the three petals on top of each other and shape them to fit the flower, securing them with milk glue.

Step 9: For the outermost layer, use five petals. Stretch the center of each petal, bend the tips, and place them slightly on top of each other, securing them with milk glue.

Step 10: Use green crepe paper to make the flower receptacle. Cut a zig-zag shape at one end.

Apply milk glue to the receptacle, place the flower in the center, and pull the sides of the receptacle towards the center. Adjust the receptacle as you pull to ensure it’s straight. Make sure the length of the receptacle is enough to cover the lower part of the innermost petals.

And there you have it! A beautiful layered paper rose.
