Onions are a versatile ingredient that is commonly used to enhance the flavor of dishes. They can be the star ingredient in crispy fried onions or a crucial component of dishes like chicken salad. Without onions, certain dishes would lose their essence.

While onions are delicious and offer various health benefits, preparing them can be challenging for women, especially when large quantities are needed for cooking or feasting. Preparing onions often leads to tears and leaves a strong onion smell on the preparer’s hands. While there are tips to avoid teary eyes, strategies to prevent the hands from smelling like onions are not commonly discussed.
One solution is to wear gloves. This prevents the onion smell from sticking to the hands. However, if gloves are not available during preparation, another simple method can be used. Soaking the hands in vinegar can “immunize” them against the onion smell. Before peeling and cutting onions, dip your hands in vinegar and then dry them with a paper towel. Afterward, proceed with slicing the onions as usual.

You can now comfortably prepare onions without worrying about the smell lingering on your hands.
