When selecting ink for use, it is important to opt for fresh ink that is devoid of any blemishes on the surface. It is also advisable to thoroughly rinse the ink with water before use.

Step 1:

Hold the ink beard tightly, gently pull the ink beard out of the body.

You can use your fingers to help separate the clinging film to make it easier to pull the ink beard and intestines out.

The figure shows the part that sticks to the ink beard can be pulled out together including ink eggs (white or yellow part, close to the body),

Ink bag (black color in the middle), digestive glands (brown color attached to the head of the ink). If the ink bag is broken, it can be rinsed clean under running water.

Step 2:

Gently pull the white spine out of the ink body.

This is the part of the spine that has been pulled out of the ink body.

At this stage, if you want to cut it, clean it, remove the internal organs inside the ink belly and cut it. If you want to cut it into pieces, see the next steps!

Step 3:

Cut along the belly of the ink.

Clean the internal organs.

Step 4: Peel the ink skin

Use a sharp knife to lightly cut a line at the head of the ink to create a groove between the skin and the ink meat.

Using one hand, firmly grip the ink meat while using the other hand to securely grasp the ink skin and pull it upwards.

In a systematic manner, you can easily remove all the ink residue from the skin.

Step 5: Clean the intestines and head of the ink

Cut the intestines off the head, slice the ink head and rinse.

To prepare the intestines, first remove the ink bag and extract the black thread from inside the ink intestines. Lastly, thoroughly rinse the cleaned head and body of the ink. Your preparation is now complete!

I used to be very hesitant to clean ink, often asking the sellers outside the market to do it for me whenever I bought it; however, since I learned how to clean ink myself, I always do it myself and feel much cleaner. At first, it was quite slow, but after just a few ink squid, I got used to it. I hope this sharing of mine is useful to you!

Wish you success!
