It cannot be denied that induction cookers, also known as induction stoves, are being chosen by many households. This type of cooker not only ensures efficiency but is also safe for the users, especially families with small children as they cool down quickly and have safety locks.

However, regardless of the many advantages, if we use them incorrectly, they can lead to regrettable accidents.

In 2019, Mr. Vương and his family were having a meal at a restaurant in Anhui (China) when suddenly an explosion occurred. This accident injured 6 people including Mr. Vương’s family and the restaurant staff.

The investigation conducted by the police later found that the accident was caused by the induction cooker in the kitchen. The main cause of the explosion was due to the family members placing a phone near the cooker.

Induction cookers may seem safe and convenient compared to gas stoves, but in reality, they also have many safety hazards. The device operates based on the phenomenon of magnetism. When turned on, the current will pass through the copper coil placed under the cooker’s glass surface and generate a magnetic field within a few millimeters on the surface. At this point, they will combine to heat up the bottom of the pot, thereby cooking the food inside.

Induction cookers use electromagnetic waves to heat up food. However, these electromagnetic waves have very low intensity, so they hardly affect human health, they are just enough to interfere with some nearby electronic devices.

Phones often contain iron and other metallic elements inside, which can easily cause explosions when placed near an induction cooker. Therefore, when using an induction cooker, besides suitable cooking utensils, no other metal substances should be placed on the cooker’s surface, especially mobile phones.

In addition, when using an induction cooker, we also need to remember the following:

1. Regularly clean the cooker

After a long period of use, an induction cooker will have oil stains or food residues that adhere tightly to the glass surface. This issue not only makes the cooker lose aesthetics but also reduces its heat efficiency, leading to wasted electricity. In the long run, it can even cause temperature imbalances and easily crack the glass surface of the cooker.

Therefore, it is best to wait for about 15 – 20 minutes for the cooker to cool down after each use, then use a soft cloth and specialized cleaning agent to clean the cooker. This will help the cooker last longer, function better, and save time and effort compared to weekly deep cleaning.

2. Use the cooker at the appropriate temperature

When cooking, whether with an induction cooker or any other type of cooker, many users often believe that by continuously setting it at the highest temperature, the food will cook faster. However, this is a misconception.

According to experts, especially with induction cookers, continuously cooking at high temperatures will increase energy consumption and corrode the cooker faster. Users should only use the maximum temperature for a few minutes of the cooking cycle, then switch to medium or low mode.

3. Choose suitable pots

Unlike gas stoves, induction cookers are considered to be more selective with pots. Therefore, users need to have a separate set of pots that are suitable for their cooker, helping to cook efficiently and not wasting energy.

Pots used for induction cookers should be made of stainless steel, cast iron, or stainless steel. These materials have good magnetism and heat absorption capabilities, helping to save energy and achieve higher efficiency. In addition, prioritize choosing pots with flat bottoms. If the pot’s bottom is not flat and decorated too much, it will affect the absorption and heat transfer ability from the cooker to the pots.
