When was the Tran Dynasty founded?

In the feudal history of Vietnam, we have a legendary dynasty. Because during this period, the kingdom produced kings who brought the people prosperous and peaceful days. At the same time, in this period, the spirit of unity and resistance to foreign invaders was shown by the indomitable will of the Vietnamese people. In this period, talented generals emerged who defeated the Mongol invaders three times, which made our northern enemies frightened and allowed the people to live in peace and prosperity.

Before we delve into the lives of the 12 Tran kings, we need to find out when the Tran Dynasty was founded and under what circumstances. Set against the backdrop of the late 12th century when the Ly Dynasty weakened, feudal forces rose up against the court. The Ly Dynasty had to rely on the Tran family to fight against the rebellious forces. The Tran Dynasty began when Tran Canh ascended the throne in 1226 after being passed on the throne by his wife, Ly Chieu Hoang.

1. Hung Dao Vuong – Tran Quoc Tuan: He is an outstanding general not only in the Tran Dynasty but also in world history. People often refer to him as “An Nam Hung Dao Dai Vuong”.

2. Tran Quang Khai (1241-1294) is a military, diplomatic, and great poet of the nation. This extraordinary and talented general held key positions in the second and third resistance wars against the Mongols.

3. Tran Nhat Duat (1255-1330): He is one of the famous and extraordinary generals of the Tran Dynasty, with great contributions in the second and third resistance wars against the Mongols. He was the commander of the Tran army that defeated the Toa Do army at Ham Tu gate in 1285.

4. Tran Khanh Du (1240-1340). He is famous for committing a serious crime and served time in prison. However, he made significant contributions during the 3 resistance wars against the Mongols, including the victory at Van Don in late 1287.

5. Tran Quoc Toan: He is a member of the Tran family. He is famous for his participation in the second resistance war against the Mongols.
