In recent days, Northern Vietnam has had a special “spring specialty” – foggy weather. The sky is filled with fog, much of the floor and walls are “sweating”, and the high humidity is inconvenient for people’s daily lives.

But perhaps the most uncomfortable thing during the humid foggy season is drying clothes, even though they have been washed, they still have a musty smell.

In this case, many families will use a dryer or take clothes to the laundry shop. However, not everyone can afford to buy a dryer or take clothes to the laundry shop.

If you want to wash clothes at home and still want them to dry quickly, smell fresh, and clean, you can refer to the following 7 ways:

1. Wash and dry clothes in the morning

Many people often do laundry at night because they have more time then. However, at night, there is no sunlight and no wind, so the humidity is high. Washing and drying clothes at this time will make them more wet and cause an unpleasant smell.

Therefore, it is better to wash and dry clothes in the morning. This is the best time of the day with beautiful weather and enough time for the clothes to dry evenly.

You should also not wash clothes at night and leave them in the washing machine until the next morning. In the washing machine, the humidity increases, and overnight it will cause bacteria and odor to develop, making the clothes smell.

2. Divide clothes into multiple washes and wring them dry

If using a washing machine, washing too many clothes will make them not well wrung and not clean. This will make the clothes take a long time to dry and have a high risk of getting moldy and providing favorable conditions for bacteria to develop.

Therefore, if you have too many clothes, do not stuff them in but divide them into multiple washes. This way, the clothes will be cleaner and drier, and at the same time, it helps protect the washing machine.

3. Wash clothes with hot water

On humid days, you can wash clothes with hot water. Although it will consume more electricity and water, washing clothes with hot water will help eliminate bacteria. Moreover, hot water evaporates faster than cold water, which helps the clothes dry faster.

If you don’t have a washing machine or your washing machine doesn’t have a hot water mode, you can turn on the water heater or heat water to the right temperature for washing. In the last wash, wash with warm water, wring the clothes dry, and then take them out to dry.

4. Use fabric softener

On sunny days, sometimes you don’t need to use fabric softener for the clothes to smell pleasant after washing. However, on humid days without sunlight, it is better to use fabric softener.

Using fabric softener will help make your clothes smell better. Not only that, using fabric softener also helps the clothes dry faster, eliminates bacteria, and prevents any odor.

5. Spread out clothes as much as possible when drying

After washing, wring the clothes dry and shake them vigorously so that they don’t get wrinkled, then hang them up. If you don’t have any machines to support, you can wrap the clothes in a thick towel for a while to absorb the excess moisture before hanging them up.

When drying, it is best to dry clothes in as open and spacious space as possible. Try to spread them out as much as possible, ensuring that the distance between two hangers is at least 5cm, then the clothes will dry faster.

If you dry them on a pole or clothesline, they can easily bunch up when there’s a gust of wind. It’s best to secure the clothes with clothespins or use various types of strings or hooks to keep the clothes in place.

6. Utilize heaters or drying machines

Air circulation is essential for clothes to dry quickly and have a pleasant smell. If you don’t have a spacious area with good ventilation for drying clothes, you can make use of heaters or drying machines.

These devices emit heat, warming small and humid rooms. Place the drying rack near the heater or drying machine to help your clothes dry in a few hours.

Note that you should never use a fan to dry clothes during the humid season. This method only causes more water vapor to condense, making the clothes take longer to dry, and you will sweat more as well.

7. Iron the clothes before drying and iron them before wearing

If you don’t have a heater or a dryer, you can use a multifunctional ironing board to help the clothes dry faster. They are not only capable of straightening the clothes but the heat they emit also helps the clothes dry faster.

Specifically, after washing the clothes, wring them dry and then spread them out on a flat surface. Use a dry iron to iron the clothes before hanging them up to dry.

To ensure that all bacteria have been eliminated from the clothes, before wearing them, you can iron them again or use a dryer to dry them. This not only helps remove excess moisture but also kills all bacteria in the clothes, making them neat and tidy.
