Julie Lanser Mayer is a Brazilian woman with an autistic son, Rafael. Her son was diagnosed with severe autism and had delayed speech. At the age of 2 years and 8 months, he couldn’t speak any words. Julie and her husband were extremely worried about their son and sought the help of experts, who confirmed his autism. This news shocked them, so they took him to three more specialists, but the result remained the same. Rafael was diagnosed with autism. They lived in constant worry because they didn’t fully understand the condition.

After that, they calmly tried various ways to help their son discover his best version. They took him to therapy, but after a few months, there was no progress. The doctor suggested letting him use a tablet to see if there would be any improvement. They were a little worried about the potential negative impact of technology, but they decided to give it a try.

Parenting approach creates miracles

They started by letting their son watch some Portuguese videos on Youtube for therapy. One day, a video in English autoplayed, and it caught Rafael’s attention. Julie was happy to see a change in his reaction. After that, he became passionate about learning different languages. It was amazing how well Rafael could remember things. He could quickly decode and pronounce different languages perfectly.

He gradually conquered English, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, Italian, Esperanto, French, German, and Brazilian sign language. Julie decided to let him focus on one specific language and only move on to a new one when he mastered the previous one.

After languages, Rafael developed an interest in playing various musical instruments such as the piano, organ, xylophone, and drums. Recently, he even started participating in music competitions. The miraculous thing was that he could learn so quickly that he could accomplish in 3 lessons what others might take 3 years to achieve.

He also started composing songs and performed in different cities. He loves Raffa Torres, a Brazilian singer, and he was invited to be part of a DVD recording and had an exciting and meaningful meeting.

Afterwards, the doctor evaluated his autism level and found that it had decreased from severe to moderate. Julie believes that music also served as a medicine to help her son’s progress. After what happened with her son, Juli believes that having an autistic child means always learning to see things differently.

Julie believes that parents of autistic children need to believe in their child’s ability and not see it as a burden. They should believe that their child has special abilities. Being happy, kind, and attentive can help their child develop exceptionally.

Rafael has never mentioned what he wants to become when he grows up, but Julie believes he could become a translator in the future. Moreover, with his interests in technology, music, and video games, he could also pursue related careers.

If parents neglect their children who have autism, their hidden talents may wither away.

Many famous people have autism

There are many geniuses who exhibited signs of autism, such as physicist Isaac Newton (UK), physicist Albert Einstein (USA), composer Ludwig van Beethoven (Germany), writer George Orwell (UK), musician Mozart (Austria), and writer Hans Christian Andersen (Denmark). According to some studies, the characteristics associated with autism share similarities with the traits often found in geniuses. Many people who do not have autism still possess some autistic characteristics that help them excel in their fields. Therefore, if you have a child with autism, the first thing to think about is that your child is special, not someone to be discarded. The right education can unleash their hidden potential.
