Showcasing Wealth
When living in a society, people often have a tendency to compare themselves to others. And wealth is the most valuable measure. Therefore, many parents are not hesitant to show off their wealth to let everyone know, admire and envy. But in reality, the lower the class, the more they like to show off their wealth to satisfy their vanity. On the other hand, truly wealthy people never intentionally showcase their wealth.
Truly wealthy people, no matter how proud they are of their wealth, never foolishly talk about their assets to others. Besides, showing off their wealth will make those around them feel uncomfortable, even look down on them.
Parents with high EQ understand that showcasing wealth can bring a lot of trouble to their children. Money is not something worth displaying for everyone to see. It attracts prying eyes, jealousy, and envy from others. When their families are targeted by people with bad intentions, it can cause unnecessary problems and make it difficult to ensure the safety of loved ones.
Furthermore, wise parents will not show off their wealth and money because they understand that material things are ephemeral. Not only do they not benefit themselves, but also showing off can lead their children to develop bad habits such as not valuing money, wasteful spending, arrogance, and conceit.
Children are a reflection of their parents, so if parents don’t live in moderation or teach their children the right values about money, the next generation will also suffer.
Showcasing Children’s Achievements
All parents want their children to be diligent, academically successful, and always proud of their children’s achievements. But parents with high EQ will never boast about their child’s excellence in front of others.
The reason is that they know very well that “there is always a bigger mountain.” Their child is not the best, so they don’t need to boast excessively, avoiding comparisons with other children. Instead, they teach their children to be humble, to work hard and strive harder when there are many people better than them. They often advise their children to “bend their heads when the rice is ripe.” Boasting achievements to others will only receive disdain and jealousy, not admiration.
Wise parents know how to help their children shine in the right way, be recognized and admired by others, instead of making their children the subject of gossip.
Showcasing Family Background
Similarly to showcasing wealth, showcasing family background will also bring many troubles to the family and children. When others know that your family is powerful, has extensive connections, or has good relationships with important or famous people, it can easily lead to jealousy and hatred. Some people may even take advantage of you or your child to achieve their goals by accessing those relationships.
Therefore, wise parents will never flaunt their social status. Instead, they pay attention to developing skills and guiding their children in the right direction. When children are nurtured by such cultured parents, they are usually obedient. Even if they are not actually successful in the future, they will know how to shine.
