With unique presentation and careful ingredient selection, we can call this dish “fortune cup.” It is shaped like a cup that contains wealth and prosperity inside.
Ingredients for “fortune cup” dish
10 grams of seaweed (known as angel hair or angel hair seaweed), 150 grams of minced meat, one large white radish, 2 grams of sea salt, 20 grams of soy sauce, 20 grams of oyster sauce, 15 grams of cooking white wine, 1 gram of ground pepper, and 20 grams of vegetable oil.
Steps to make “fortune cup” dish
Step 1: Rinse the seaweed under running water to remove dust and dirt. Then, soak the seaweed in water for about 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes soft and puffed up. After soaking, rinse the seaweed again several times to ensure all remaining dirt is removed. Cut the seaweed into small pieces.
Note: In China, seaweed is also called “Phat Thai,” symbolizing prosperity and wealth. It is often used in Lunar New Year dishes and can be used as an ingredient for soups, stir-fries, salads, or fillings.
Step 2: Peel the radish and cut it into 2cm thick pieces. Use a corer to create a hole in the middle of each radish piece. The hollowed-out parts of the radish need to be thinly sliced, seasoned with salt for about 10 minutes, then squeezed to remove excess water. The lean meat should be cut into small pieces and minced.
Step 3: Combine the minced meat with the finely chopped radish in a bowl. Add the seaweed, soy sauce, oyster sauce, ground pepper, and cooking white wine. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly, marinate for about 10 minutes. Mix it again to ensure an even mixture. Stuff the meat mixture into the hollowed-out holes in the radish. Arrange the filled radish on a plate.
Step 4: Steam the ingredients in a pot, starting the timer from when the water boils, for about 15-18 minutes. While waiting, you can shape the carrots into small beautiful flowers for decoration or use goji berries as accents. When the dish is cooked, lightly brush each meat filling with oil or sauce to enhance the flavor and keep the meat tender.
Introduction to “fortune cup” dish: “Fortune cup” is a wonderful dish to add to the Lunar New Year banquet with simple yet attractive ingredients.
