According to Master Thich Chan Phap Dang, illness is indeed a blessing, a gift that alerts us to appreciate life. Sickness is an opportunity for us to change our way of living. Let’s change our way of living before it’s too late.

Illness is a catastrophic event that threatens our lives by bringing us pain, fear, and loneliness. How can we consider it a gift or a grace?

Looking at its positive side, when we are sick, it is a “red alarm” that prompts us to reconsider what harm we have done to our bodies with bad habits, how they have affected our health to this extent, and then find a way to change immediately.

It’s like when we cut our hand with a knife, it is to learn from our mistakes and never make them again. Illness is the same, if we are complacent and do not try to remedy it soon, the risk of illness will become more and more serious, to the point where we may not be able to save our lives.

There are quite a few people who have experienced near-death situations, almost died from illness, but when they were lucky enough to be saved, they completely changed their temperament. They chose a more scientific way of life, dedicating all their time to helping others, choosing a minimalist life, no longer competing or fighting against life.

When we understand that illness is a gift of life, it means we are being sent a clear message: we need to change immediately, so in those moments, we need to be awake, not complacent or negligent.

Illness is indeed a blessing, a gift, an alarm that alerts us to appreciate life, time, and the work we are doing. Instead of being confused, making our health worse, we can turn that worry into the strength to overcome illness, becoming stronger and wiser.

And most importantly, to minimize our vulnerability to illness, we need to cultivate a healthy lifestyle, eat scientifically, sleep moderately, avoid the abuse of stimulants, and actively participate in physical activities or exercise daily.

Indeed, developing healthy habits to improve our health is not easy, but it is an important task that we must train ourselves in and not give up easily.
