After a few unbearably hot and sunny days, the North has experienced a shift in weather as predicted, with the arrival of northeastern winds. The temperature has dropped significantly, and heavy rainfall has occurred in certain areas.

From 7 pm yesterday to this morning, June 3rd, some places recorded substantial rainfall amounts, including: Việt Lâm (Hà Giang) 169.4 mm, Sinh Long (Tuyên Quang) 67.8 mm, and Cốc Pàng (Cao Bằng) 59.2 mm…, according to the Vrain application.

However, the North Delta region has remained mostly dry. In Hanoi, the night of June 2nd to the early morning of June 3rd was uncomfortably hot and stuffy, with a slight relief felt only at dawn due to the influence of the northeastern winds.

Nonetheless, it’s important to note that the lack of rain in Hanoi and its neighboring provinces doesn’t mean it won’t rain at all. Current models predict that Hanoi will experience rainfall starting from late afternoon to tonight, June 3rd, initially in the form of light showers, with the possibility of heavier rain later in the night. The rain is expected to continue until tomorrow, with some models forecasting a decrease in rainfall intensity from tomorrow afternoon, while others suggest it will persist until late tomorrow night. However, the rain in Hanoi is mostly expected to be light to moderate.

It’s worth noting that due to the intense heat experienced before the arrival of the northeastern winds, there is a possibility of extreme weather events such as thunderstorms, hail, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. Therefore, from this evening until tomorrow, residents of the North are advised to plan their activities accordingly and be cautious of potential extreme weather conditions. If you find yourself outdoors during a thunderstorm, it is imperative to seek shelter immediately to ensure your safety.

A man in Đồng Nai suspected to have been killed by wild elephants

On June 3rd, the Đồng Nai Forest Protection Department announced that they are coordinating with relevant agencies to investigate the death of a local man, suspected to have been attacked by wild elephants.

Preliminary information suggests that at around 6 am on June 3rd, a local resident discovered the body of Mr. Lê Văn Thận (66 years old, residing in Tổ 2, Ấp 4, Mã Đà Commune, Vĩnh Cửu District, Đồng Nai) and immediately reported it to the local authorities.

The initial examination of the scene indicated that the likely cause of Mr. Thận’s death was an attack by wild elephants. Mr. Thận was a land concessionaire of the Đồng Nai Nature and Culture Reserve.

The previous day, on June 2nd, at around 4 pm, a group of approximately four wild elephants was spotted leaving the Đồng Nai Nature and Culture Reserve (in Tổ 1, Ấp 4, Mã Đà Commune) and entering the area of local residents’ crops. They later returned to the natural forest area.

Around 9 pm on the same day, the elephant herd ventured into Mr. Lê Văn Thận’s farm in search of food. It is speculated that upon encountering the elephants, Mr. Thận attempted to drive them away and was tragically attacked.

In recent times, wild elephants have frequently ventured into human settlements in search of food. Last month, a young elephant fell into a well and perished while traveling with its herd through a local’s crop field. Additionally, in 2023, a resident of Thanh Sơn Commune, Định Quán District, Đồng Nai, sustained injuries from an elephant attack.
