A recent study suggests that individuals who spend over six hours sitting each day, either working or watching TV, should consider incorporating a particular beverage into their routine to reduce their risk of mortality, as reported by Mirror.
This recommendation comes on the back of a study involving 10,639 participants, conducted by scientists from Soochow University in China and published in the journal BMC Public Health.
The findings indicate that individuals who spend extended periods sitting and consume coffee have a 1.58 times lower risk of mortality from all causes compared to their non-coffee-drinking, sedentary counterparts, with the effects sustained over up to 13 years.
Coffee appears to offer protective benefits against the negative consequences of prolonged sitting, including heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.
The study also revealed that any amount of coffee provides risk reduction, with the optimal intake being two to three cups per day.
According to data from the International Coffee Organization, Vietnam ranks second in the world for coffee export market share for the period from February 2021 to January 2022, just behind Brazil. Additionally, Vietnam leads in coffee-planting productivity, yielding 2.4 tons per hectare. Notably, Dak Lak province contributes over 30% of the country’s coffee production, with the renowned “Buon Ma Thuot coffee” brand exported to more than 70 countries and territories.
Previous research has indicated that caffeine may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Coffee also contains antioxidants that can decrease inflammation. Other components in coffee have been linked to a reduced risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.
In another study, it was found that coffee consumption could lower the risk of colorectal cancer recurrence. Scientists emphasize the need for further research to fully understand the mechanisms and reasons why coffee may mitigate risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle.
