1. Foundation
Many women have the habit of trying foundation on the back of their hand or chin, but that is not the most effective method. To choose and try the right shade of foundation for your face, you should lightly apply a thin layer on the neck and blend it evenly. The neck area has the most consistent skin tone with the face. Applying foundation on the neck will help you choose a natural shade that matches your skin tone to avoid the two-tone face and neck error.
When buying new foundation, you should bring the foundation bottle that you regularly use, or remember their numbers and brands to save time shopping.
– If you have oily or combination skin, you should choose a balanced pH foundation (around 5.5), matte shade.
– If you have dry or normal skin, choose foundations with a light shimmer.
– If you have a rosy complexion, choose the common beige shade.
– If your skin tone is slightly darker, choose darker brown or light yellow foundation.
2. Powder
Powder is a relatively easy cosmetic to choose for every woman because we should all use the same type of powder: matte powder. When buying powder, try rubbing a large amount of powder on the back of your hand and see if it smudges. You can also use powder to pat on eyeshadow to make it last longer and apply under the eyes to prevent smudging mascara.
3. Blush
You should choose pink or blush shades for fair skin, and choose mauve or plum shades for darker skin. Makeup experts advise you not to be afraid of bright colors on the packaging because they often have shimmer to give a brighter complexion. Additionally, blush shades when applied to the face will appear lighter than their true colors on the packaging to create a natural look.
4. Highlighter
Use a large, fluffy brush to try powdered highlighter on the back of your hand or use your finger to try cream or liquid highlighter products. Put your hand in the light to ensure that the color does not appear too shiny.
If they look milky white on your hand, be careful as they will look worse on your face under the lights. Champagne gold is the most universally flattering color for all skin tones and you can feel confident when choosing it.
Look for products with the words “radiant”, “glow”; be cautious with products labeled “glimmering” or “shimmer”. Also avoid buying products with obvious speckles.
5. Eyeliner
This selection method applies to liquid or gel eyeliner. When choosing, draw a line on the back of your hand, wait a second then wipe it off. If the line smudges a little, it is a good product, but if it smudges heavily, it is a sign that the product is easily smudged and should not be used.
Eyeliner is one of the easiest products to buy without trying. Most eyeliner colors match their names. If your eyelids are slightly oily, choose eyeliners advertised as “firm” or “traditional” – they will have less smudging. If you have sensitive skin, absolutely avoid waterproof eyeliners as they are not water-resistant.
6. Mascara
Mascara with a thin wand will have less clumping and can reach the base of the lashes more easily. Instead of the long brush mascaras, if you have short lashes, you can choose mascaras with a rounded brush for easier application.
Black mascara is the safest choice, but if you like playful accents on your lashes, then blue or green shades will also go well with brown or black eyes.
7. Lipstick
Try lipstick on the back of your hand, not on the back of your hand, so you will know the true color when applied to the lips. Matte lipsticks often contain multiple pigments, while lip glosses have a satin finish that gives a subtle shine. Choose the type you like.
– For lip gloss:
Apply the lipstick on your fingertips and rub them gently together (like when you smack your lips). This way, you will know which lipstick is a little sticky or extremely sticky; and determine exactly how much glitter will “stick” to your lips when you use it.
If you want colored lip gloss, choose the ones labeled “lacquer” on the packaging, and if you just want a shiny finish, just look for the familiar “gloss” type.
