The mit fruit tree is a familiar sight in tropical regions, including Vietnam, where it is commonly cultivated. Mit, also known as jackfruit, comes in several varieties such as mit mat, mit dai, mit Thai, and more.

The ripe mit arils are highly nutritious, packed with protein, glucids, sugar, carotenes, vitamins B2 and C, calcium, iron, and starch, to name a few.

According to traditional medicine, all parts of the mit tree have medicinal properties. The unripe fruit, with its astringent taste, helps tighten the skin. Ripe mit, on the other hand, has a sweet taste and a warming effect, quenching thirst and supporting respiratory health, especially in treating yin deficiency with excess yang.

The sap of the mit tree is bland in taste and neutral in nature. It is said to detoxify, reduce swelling and pain, and resolve abscesses.

The leaves of the mit tree also offer various health benefits.

The Benefits of Drinking Mit Leaf Infusion

Mit leaf infusion is believed to offer several health benefits according to traditional medicine.

Mit leaves are commonly used in folk medicine. According to an article by pharmacist Duc Huy in Nhan Dan newspaper, here are some remedies using mit leaves:

– Take 20-30 grams of fresh mit leaves (preferably from the mit mat variety), wash, chop, and lightly roast them. Boil the leaves to make an infusion; this is said to help treat children with cloudy urine.

– Combine mit leaves with equal parts of hairy mulberry roots, corn silk, plantain herb, and couch grass roots. Decoct the mixture and drink the infusion to support the treatment of kidney stones.

– Crush fresh mit leaves and apply them as a poultice on boils to reduce swelling and pain.

You can also make a mit syrup: cook one ripe mit (preferably mit mat) with half a liter of water. Blend it, strain the mixture, and add sugar (a 2:1 ratio of syrup to sugar). Cook this mixture until it thickens into a syrup. Dilute a small amount of the syrup in boiled water to make a refreshing drink that helps with dehydration and dry throat.

Additionally, according to an article by Doctor Nguyen Thuy in the Suc Khoe & Doi Song newspaper, mit leaves can be used in the following ways:

– Boil 30-40 grams of fresh mit leaves to make an infusion. This is said to be beneficial for lactating women, helping to increase breast milk production.

– Slice unripe mit and stir-fry it with lean meat. Consume this as a savory dish with rice; it is believed to benefit the spleen, harmonize the liver, and increase breast milk production in postpartum women.

– Take 20 grams of roasted mit leaves and decoct them with 550ml of water over low heat until approximately 200ml remains. Drink this infusion twice a day for five days to treat digestive issues caused by consuming raw or cold food.
