If ginger is not stored properly, it will easily sprout. Once the ginger has sprouted, it will shrink, lose water, and lose its original scent. Therefore, many people choose to store ginger in the refrigerator to prevent sprouting, but this method actually causes the ginger to wither and lose water after a period of time. So, how do you store ginger properly and keep it fresh for a long time? You can refer to the following 3 methods:
1. Store in a cardboard box with baking soda
Step 1: Prepare a cardboard box and a stack of old newspapers, seal the bottom, fold an old newspaper, place it at the bottom of the cardboard box, and sprinkle some baking soda. Baking soda absorbs moisture, keeps the environment dry, and prevents ginger from molding .
Step 2: Put the ginger on the old newspaper, cover it with another layer of old newspaper, sprinkle baking soda, and put the ginger in the box. It is important to note that you should not wash the ginger you buy, just use a dry cloth to wipe off the dirt on the surface, as contact with water will easily damage it.
Step 3: Once the box is full, wrap it with old newspaper, close the box, and store it in a cool place for 3 months.
2. Store with white wine and plastic wrap
Wine has the effect of disinfecting and sterilizing, while plastic wrap can isolate air and moisture, keeping ginger fresh for a long time.
Step 1: Pour cold water into a bowl, add a spoonful of salt, stir until the salt dissolves, soak the ginger for 10 minutes, then air dry or wipe it with a kitchen towel.
Step 2: Pour high-concentration white wine into a bowl, add ginger and soak for 1 minute, then take it out and place it in a cool place to dry. Wrap it with plastic wrap, put it in a sealed box, and store it in a cool place for 1 month.
3. Store with white wine and salt
Both white wine and salt have the effect of sterilizing, preventing ginger from sprouting and keeping it fresh for a long time.
Step 1: Wash the ginger, dry it, and cut it into slices so that it can be used directly. Prepare a sealed container, pour in an appropriate amount of white wine, close the lid, and shake well to sterilize it.
Step 2: Pour out the white wine, add sliced ginger, sprinkle an appropriate amount of salt, mix well, close the lid, and put it in the refrigerator. Ginger stored in this way will stay fresh for half a year without fear of spoilage.
