Tet Holiday, also known as Western New Year or International New Year, is the first day of the year, falling on January 1st according to the Gregorian calendar.

Tet Holiday 2022 will occur on a Saturday, January 1st, 2022.

This means that there are just over two months left until Tet 2022.

2How many days off for Tet Holiday 2022?

According to Article 115 of the Labor Code, employees are entitled to a day off with full pay on the Tet Holiday each year (January 1st according to the Gregorian calendar).

However, since Tet Holiday 2022 falls on a Saturday (01/01/2022), employees working in establishments or companies that have a two-day weekend policy (Saturday and Sunday off) will enjoy a three-day holiday, from 01/01/2022 to 03/01/2022. Tuesday, January 4, 2022, will be the resumption of work.

For organizations or institutions that implement a one-day weekend policy (Sunday off only), employees will have Saturday and Sunday off, and they will resume work on Monday, January 3, 2022.

As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for 2022 by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs. However, the number of days off for the Lunar New Year Holiday may vary depending on the company or organization.

Nonetheless, employees will be entitled to a minimum of four days off from January 31 to February 3, 2022 (from New Year’s Eve to the third day of the Lunar New Year).

For students in Ho Chi Minh City, according to the 2021-2022 academic calendar, students will have a Lunar New Year holiday from January 29, 2022 (the 27th day of the twelfth lunar month) to February 6, 2022 (the sixth day of the first lunar month).

What is Lunar New Year?

The Lunar New Year in Vietnam is also referred to as Tet Holiday, Vietnamese Tet, Lunar New Year, Traditional Tet, or simply Tet. To date, there is no precise information or specific timeline confirming the origin of the Lunar New Year.

However, some sources suggest that the Lunar New Year originated in China and was introduced to Vietnam during the millennium of Northern domination. On the other hand, according to the legend of “Banh Chung” and “Banh Day,” the Vietnamese have been celebrating Tet since the time of the Hung Kings, even before the period of Northern domination. Therefore, the exact origin of Tet remains a subject of debate.
