Housewife becomes a TikToker to relieve daughter-in-law’s pressure
Sharing with Thanh Nien, Mrs. Vu Thi Huong (59 years old, living in Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City), the channel owner, said like other housewives, she got a smartphone, and used to watch livestreams on Facebook to find sales. “Sometimes I bought bad quality items, it made me so frustrated,” she laughed. At home, she only took care of cooking, cleaning, and occasionally she acted as a supporting actor for her son’s channel. Reading comments praising her voice, and natural acting, her son, Mr. Nguyen Vu Khoa (31 years old, her son) helped her create her own channel “so she could become the main actress.”

“I already had a Facebook account named Huong Huong, so when I started TikTok, my son was about to get married, I thought that I would soon have a daughter-in-law, so I picked the name ‘Mother Huong Huong’. At that time, it was during the Covid-19 pandemic, my son’s engagement had to be held online, our daughter-in-law had not come to our house yet, so my son and I made some life hack clips for our daughter-in-law to watch, to relieve the pressure when dealing with her mother-in-law’s direct teaching,” shared the TikTok channel with over 2.1 million followers.

Her son, Khoa, also revealed that all the clips on Mother Huong Huong’s channel were filmed and edited using a smartphone. Reading the comments under the clips, she saw many female nicknames asking to become her daughter-in-law, she usually likes those comments but doesn’t answer them because she’s afraid her daughter-in-law will be sad when she sees them. Then Khoa laughed and told a memorable story: “At the beginning, when she started TikTok, many people called her ‘mother-in-law’, my wife was a bit annoyed, and she said to me, ‘I’ll check the comments, see what’s going on’. Look, she’s so popular, even at Vung Tau and Phu Quoc, there were young people who recognized her and called her Mother Huong Huong, that made her so happy.”

Without ever going to school, without learning from anyone how to act or speak, in all her clips, Huong’s personality is reflected. 99% of her clips feature her wearing an orange outfit as her trademark. Since becoming a TikToker, she has encountered people teasing her when she goes out: “Now you’re famous!”, even in Vung Tau and Phu Quoc, there were young people who recognized and called her Mother Huong Huong, which she found very interesting.

According to her, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship in modern society is not as strict as before, there are many mothers-in-law who treat their daughter-in-law like their own daughter, and she is one of them. Every day, her daughter-in-law, born in 2001, goes to work, and she still stays at home, taking care of cooking and cleaning. She said: “I cook for myself, so why not cook for them?
