One common issue is the browning of apples after they have been cut, which can make them appear unappealing. Many individuals have attempted to address this problem by soaking sliced apples in a mixture of water and lemon juice. However, some mothers have reported that this method sometimes imparts a slightly sour taste from the lemon, causing the apples to lose their original flavor. Therefore, the question of how to prevent apples from browning after being cut still remains unanswered.
In a revelation by Eleanor Hill, the mother of three young children, Patrick (6 years old), Harry (4 years old), and Anni (2 years old), she shares a method by which she can cut an apple into multiple slices that won’t brown throughout the day. Eleanor explains that instead of cutting the apple in the usual manner, she flips the apple upside down, cuts it lengthwise, and leaves a small portion near the core intact. She repeats the same process on the opposite side, ensuring that the cuts do not penetrate the core. Afterwards, she repositions the two cut parts back together. Continuing the process lengthwise and a few centimeters away from the core, she cuts perpendicular to the first two slices. As a result, the apple is divided into small pieces, with the central piece being the core.

After cutting, she reassembles the sliced pieces to resemble an apple and tightly secures them with a rubber band. Eleanor explains that with just a small rubber band, she can keep the apple fresh throughout the day without it browning.
“We do the same with pears. It works very effectively because the acid from the fruit helps keep them fresh. This idea comes from how we store avocados by keeping the pit and reassembling the two cut halves. I’m sure this method can be applied to any type of fruit,” Eleanor shared.

Eleanor’s sharing has garnered positive responses and appreciation from other mothers. It is recommended to try this method and witness the remarkable effect of a small rubber band. Remember to share this useful tip with everyone.
