Everyone knows that the kitchen area is prone to being messy, with oil stains and water marks after every cooking session. It’s also difficult to keep it clean and organized with a pile of messy dishes and cutlery. But, my mother-in-law’s kitchen is different.

Every time I visit, I am amazed by my mother-in-law’s kitchen. The kitchen is always spotlessly clean, with everything neatly organized. Sometimes, I even jokingly play around with my mother-in-law, knowing that she spends a lot of time cleaning the kitchen.

She laughs and says that keeping the kitchen clean and organized is not difficult, as long as you remember these 5 steps. By following these steps, cleaning up the kitchen will no longer be a “nightmare” and won’t take up too much time.

1. Clean up before cooking

My mother-in-law says that a messy kitchen can kill the enthusiasm for cooking. I agree with her. So, if the kitchen is messy and disorganized, you need to clean up the dirty dishes and wipe the kitchen area before starting to cook.

Cleaning up beforehand will make cooking more enjoyable and cleaning up afterward much easier.

2. Clean as you go

To save time and avoid feeling overwhelmed by a pile of dishes and the battlefield you create after cooking, it’s best to clean as you go.

For example, after picking vegetables and peeling fruits and vegetables, throw away the scraps immediately instead of leaving them on the countertop. If the vegetable basket gets dirty, gently tap it to clean it and then put it back neatly, instead of leaving it with the pile of greasy dishes to be washed later.

When using knives and cutting boards to cut vegetables, you can also wash them beforehand. While waiting for the rice to cook or soup to boil, you can also wash some of the dirty dishes.

3. Clean up before leaving the kitchen

After each cooking session, it’s important to give the kitchen a final cleanup before leaving. Specifically, wipe the gas stove, kitchen counter, and kitchen walls, as if oil stains and stubborn dirt are left for too long, they become harder to clean.

Or after washing all the cooking utensils, proceed to clean the sink. Remove any leftover food in the strainer, scrub the sink, and dry it with a dishcloth. This way, the sink will always be clean, shiny, and odor-free.

4. Organize kitchen utensils

Organizing kitchen utensils will make it easier for you to locate and use cooking tools, dishes, and ingredients more effectively. It also helps save space in the kitchen, making it neater and tidier.

When organizing kitchen utensils, divide them into different areas. For example, use cabinets to store dishes, plastic containers, etc. Use shelves to store cooking equipment and pots. Utilize the area under the sink to store cleaning supplies and use containers to store food.

5. Keep kitchen towels clean and dry

Kitchen towels are prone to getting dirty. If you use a dirty towel, cleaning the kitchen becomes difficult and even pointless, as the dirt on the towel can spread to the kitchen, making it dirtier.

After each cleanup, it’s best to wash the towel and let it dry, preparing it for the next time.
