Refrigerate
Before storing fresh ginger in the fridge, you need to wrap the ginger root in a piece of foil/food wrap or cloth and then place it in a sealed plastic bag before putting it in the fridge’s crisper drawer.
When stored this way, ginger will retain its freshness and nutrients for up to 2 months.
Marinate Ginger
Crush the ginger and place it in a large jar. Add a little salt, lemon juice, and sugar, and close the lid tightly before placing it in the fridge. When you need to use ginger, just take it out, and it will still have that warm, spicy flavor.
Sand Storage
Prepare a sand-filled bucket and then bury the fresh ginger deep in the sand. Place the bucket in a well-ventilated area to prevent spoilage. You can also use this method to store potatoes, carrots, and other root vegetables.
Grind into Powder
Before grinding the ginger into a powder, you need to sun-dry or dehydrate it for about a week. Then, grind the ginger into a fine powder and store it in an airtight jar. With this storage method, you can use ginger for up to a year.
Ginger Pickle
Peel and soak the ginger in vinegar for about 3 weeks. After that, you can use the ginger and the vinegar it was soaked in. The ginger will retain its delicious flavor and nutritional value.
