Bacteria Nest in Shower Heads

In modern home designs, most architects often design shower heads for families. Most people think that showering with a shower head is clean. However, many families often neglect shower head hygiene.

While using it for a long time, the shower head is prone to dirt and water accumulation, not to mention scale and deposits. Stagnant water in the system provides favorable conditions for bacteria to grow.

Experts have warned that a type of bacteria found in shower heads can cause lung inflammation when inhaled. It is Legionella bacteria.

This bacteria also accumulates in unused water outlets. When inhaling this bacteria, it can cause pneumonia and if not detected and treated in time, it can even lead to death.

A figure provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the US shows that out of every 10 people who contract the disease, one dies. And many studies have shown that rust particles from iron pipes create conditions for Legionella bacteria to grow.

According to the sharing of employees of the Global Sanitation Company, it is very necessary to clean the shower head. People should try to clean the shower head every week and disinfect it thoroughly once a year.

To clean it thoroughly, remove it, soak it in a diluted disinfectant solution, and use a brush to clean the inside dust.

Clean the Shower Head Easily with Household Ingredients

Use toilet cleaner

Industrial sanitation commonly uses toilet cleaner. Before cleaning the shower head, prepare gloves, paper towels, and toilet cleaner.

Wear gloves to avoid touching the harmful cleaning agent on your hands. Then, put the paper towel in a box and pour some toilet cleaner into it.

Next, when the paper towel is soaked with the cleaning agent, apply it to the shower head. Leave it on for 30 minutes, then remove the paper towel and use a brush to clean the device’s surface.

Use white vinegar

White vinegar can help you clean the shower head very well instead of using toilet cleaner. Because white vinegar is not only a spice used for cooking but also has good cleaning properties.

You can use a plastic bag or a box to pour vinegar into it, then soak the shower head in vinegar for at least 30 minutes. Then, use clean water to clean it again until it is clean.

Use lemon juice mixed with vinegar

The mixture of lemon juice and vinegar also helps to quickly clean the shower head. Accordingly, mix 3 tablespoons of lemon juice with 300ml of vinegar and put it in a bag, tie the bag tightly to the shower head.

Leave the mixture for a few hours, use a brush to clean the dirt on the surface. To remove dirt, turn on the water for a few minutes.

In addition, you can use baking soda, which is also effective for cleaning shower heads. Mix a little lemon juice with baking soda to make a mixture, then pour it into a bag.

Next, tie this bag to the shower head and soak it overnight. In the morning, you can use a brush to clean the small holes on the surface of the shower head and then flush the water to remove deposits.

If the shower head is clogged due to a blockage in the water pipe, you can use a wrench to remove the shower stem and check for foreign objects inside. Then proceed with cleaning as above.
