Why you should not fold your pillow before leaving the hotel?

Many people have the habit of tidying up their room, making their bed neat before leaving the hotel. They believe that this is a way to show empathy and share with the service staff, helping them save the effort of cleaning up. However, this “thoughtful” action sometimes makes the staff spend more time and effort, or it can even inconvenience the next guests.

Why shouldn’t you fold the bed before leaving the hotel?

When the previous guest leaves, the hotel staff will have to replace the used sheets and pillows with a new set for the next guest. Therefore, if you straighten the sheets, fold the bed, and tidy up the pillows, they will have to take them out again to replace them.

In addition, for rooms with more than one bed, if you fold them too neatly and flatly, it may make the staff think that the bed has not been used and does not need new sheets and pillows. In this case, your kind gesture unintentionally harms the next guest because they will have to use dirty sheets and pillows.

The same goes for towels, the hotel staff would appreciate it if you leave the used towels in a corner of the bathroom or in the bathtub as it makes it easier for them to collect and clean. If you fold them neatly, they will have difficulty distinguishing between used and clean towels, leading to unnecessary waste when they have to wash them all.

Now you know why you shouldn’t fold the bed before leaving the hotel, right? If you want to help the housekeeping staff, you can throw the trash in the designated place, turn off all unnecessary devices, remove the sheets, pillows, and blankets and place them together with the used towels in a separate corner.

What should you do before checking out?

The room service staff would greatly appreciate it if you do these things before leaving the hotel, as it will save them a lot of time and effort in cleaning up.

Turn off the TV, air conditioning, and electronic devices

Leaving these devices on not only wastes electricity but also leaves the housekeeping staff uncertain if the room has been vacated or not. They will have to spend time calling the front desk to verify.

Put items back in their proper place
If you return the TV remote control, air conditioning remote control, electric kettle, cups, etc., to their designated places, the housekeeping staff will save a few minutes on this task.

Gather the trash

You just need to put the items considered as trash in the bin, this also helps the housekeeping staff lighten their load. If there is too much trash, you can put them in a plastic bag or simply gather them in one corner.

Having a tidy room not only benefits the housekeeping staff but also makes it easier for you to spot any forgotten items.

Keep unused items separate

Don’t mix clean towels with used ones. If you haven’t used them all, don’t take them apart. As for the used towels, don’t fold them neatly as if they haven’t been touched.

If not necessary, don’t use all the beds

You only have 2 people in your family while the villa has 3 beds. If not necessary, you can keep 1-2 beds intact. This is a way to reduce the workload for the housekeeping staff, as well as reduce the environmental impact by saving water for washing, detergent, and energy for washing and drying.
