This is the 76th National Day

Freedom and independence shine bright as the full moon

Our peaceful country, dreams fulfilled

Standing shoulder to shoulder with powerful nations, as Uncle Ho wished

A glorious history, a harmonious song

North and South united as one family

Grateful for the Party and Uncle Ho, our hearts are filled with joy

Together, let’s build a prosperous Vietnam

National Day, a day of rest, let’s enjoy ourselves

Admiring the sky and the earth, how delightful

With a peaceful mind and a cheerful soul

Suddenly, the emptiness within me is filled…

The red flag waves in celebration of our independence

The Declaration of Independence echoes across the five continents

Our nation proudly raises its head

Breaking free from shackles, building a democratic nation

Countless people have shed blood and made sacrifices

So that future generations can live in peace

Confidently stepping forward, blending with the world

Marching Song, Verse 1:

The Vietnamese army marches forward

United in saving the nation,

Their steps echo on the rugged path,

The flag bears the blood of victory and the soul of the nation,

Guns sing along with the marching song,

The road to glory is paved with the bodies of our enemies,

Through hardship, we establish our base,

Fighting for the people without rest,

Marching bravely to the battlefield.

Forward! Always forward!

Our beloved Vietnam stands strong.

With the golden star flag waving proudly

Leading our nation out of suffering

Lyrics

And I love, and I sing

Words of love, words that burn

In these days, my beloved country

Our dear Motherland

I hear the melody of my Motherland

Softly, in a lullaby

I hear the melody of my Motherland

Deeply, in the sounds of nature

I hear it in words of love

I hear it in passionate words

A mother sends off her soldier son

The melody of remembrance and love accompanies him on his journey

And I love, and I sing

Words of love, words that burn

In these days, my beloved country

Our dear Motherland

I hear the melody of my Motherland

In the joyful and sorrowful verses of “The Tale of Kieu”

I hear

Frequently asked questions

This date marks a pivotal moment in Vietnam’s history as it signifies the country’s declaration of independence from French colonial rule. On this day, Ho Chi Minh, the beloved revolutionary leader, read the Declaration of Independence, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and asserting the nation’s sovereignty and self-governance.

Vietnam became a part of the French colonial empire in the late 19th century. The French gradually extended their influence and control over the region, exploiting Vietnam’s rich natural resources and using it as a source of cheap labor and raw materials for their own economic gain.

In the years preceding the declaration, Vietnam witnessed a growing nationalist movement and increasing resistance to French rule. The Viet Minh, a nationalist and communist organization led by Ho Chi Minh, played a crucial role in organizing and mobilizing the people against the French. The Japanese occupation during World War II further fueled nationalist sentiments, and the Viet Minh seized the opportunity to strengthen their position and gain control of large parts of the country.

The Declaration of Independence laid the foundation for Vietnam’s struggle for freedom and self-determination. It inspired and united the Vietnamese people in their fight against foreign domination, first against the French and later against the Americans. The declaration also set the stage for the country’s political and social transformation, shaping its future as a socialist republic.

National Day, also known as Independence Day, is a patriotic and joyous occasion for the Vietnamese people. It is marked by grand celebrations, parades, cultural performances, and displays of national pride. People gather to honor the country’s history, pay tribute to Ho Chi Minh, and reaffirm their commitment to Vietnam’s independence and unity.
