Toilet flush buttons nowadays are commonly designed with two parts: a larger button and a smaller button. Many people use them on a daily basis, but may not necessarily know how to use them correctly.

Dual Flush Toilet

After using the toilet, pressing the flush button is a habit, but many people often press it randomly without realizing that the size of the buttons determines how they should be used. The reason why we have 2 buttons is different for a reason.

In reality, these 2 buttons allow you to adjust the amount of water that will be flushed into the toilet bowl. Here’s how they work:

– The smaller button releases half of the water in the tank, around 3 liters, with moderate flushing power, suitable for regular urination.

– The larger button releases a larger amount of water into the tank, with stronger flushing power compared to the smaller button, suitable for heavier use after defecation.

– Pressing both buttons at the same time will flush all the water in the tank, which can be around 4 – 6 liters depending on the type of toilet. It has a stronger flushing power and is suitable to use when the previous flush wasn’t enough to clean the bowl.

This toilet design helps you save more water. At the same time, it also helps to protect the environment better if you know how to use it correctly.

If you want to save even more water when flushing, you can place a plastic bottle filled with water in the tank to significantly reduce the amount of water used. However, this method may result in weaker flushing. You can adjust the size of the bottle to find a balance between water saving and proper flushing.

Single Flush Toilet

With a single flush toilet, pressing the button once will flush all waste with the same amount of water each time. Sometimes, it can use up to 18 liters of water per flush. In the long run, this is harmful to the environment and wastes household water. So how can you save water with this type of toilet?

The simple solution is to press quickly when urinating, and hold for about 2 – 3 seconds when defecating to ensure a thorough flush.

Manual Flush Toilet

A manual flush toilet operates similarly to a single flush toilet. If you push the lever halfway, only half the amount of water will be flushed. If you push it all the way down, double the amount of water will be flushed.

Different toilets may have different types of handles or buttons with different mechanisms. As long as you use them correctly, they can help you save a significant amount of money and resources.
