Situation of the Covid-19 Pandemic
The Covid-19 virus, which causes respiratory tract inflammation and spreads from person to person, has become a global pandemic. The number of infections is continuously increasing worldwide, including in Vietnam.
In response to this situation, the Vietnamese government has implemented strict measures to prevent and quarantine the virus. It is crucial for us to cooperate and be honest in our efforts to combat the pandemic in Vietnam and the world. This includes limiting gatherings in crowded places, wearing masks, and regularly washing our hands with soap.
Health experts emphasize that having good immunity can help reduce the risk of infection. To ensure a healthy body and strong immunity, it is important to pay attention to both the quantity and quality of nutrition.
Therefore, it is crucial to carefully choose foods that provide a high amount of nutrients and regularly adjust our diets to absorb as many nutrients as possible.
What to Do and Not to Do When Eating During a Pandemic
What to Do
- Eat a sufficient amount of energy-producing substances
We can refer to the nutrition pyramid created by the Nutrition Institute to determine the appropriate amount of food needed to provide enough nutrition for a day. It is important to consume enough of the four food groups, as well as vitamins and minerals. Having sufficient nutrients in our body signifies a strong immune system and increased immunity.
- Use multivitamin supplements
During this critical time, we can consider using additional multivitamin supplements under the guidance of healthcare professionals. These supplements can help provide the necessary nutrients that may not be adequately obtained through food. Vitamins such as A, C, D, E, iron, zinc, etc. all contribute to strengthening the immune system.
- Drink enough water, about 2 – 2.5 liters per day
It is essential to consume around 2 to 2.5 liters of water daily, which may vary depending on the level of physical activity. Regularly drinking water, in moderate amounts each time, is important for our overall health. It is recommended not to wait until we are thirsty to drink water.
What to Avoid
- Avoid certain foods
Avoid consuming raw or undercooked meats, as they may carry various pathogens that can harm our health. It is also best to avoid drinking water that has been boiled and reheated multiple times, as well as water that has been boiled for more than 2 days.
Limit the consumption of carbonated drinks and caffeinated beverages, and avoid using them as a substitute for filtered water.
- When eating outdoors
During the pandemic, it is advisable to limit or avoid eating outside to minimize exposure to crowded places. Additionally, it is recommended to carry a mask and hand sanitizer to sanitize before eating.
