Many people are hesitant to peel garlic because it is difficult and time-consuming. Moreover, just touching it will make the smell stick to your hands all day, even after washing them multiple times. It can be quite unpleasant!
To solve this problem, experienced people have discovered and shared 4 quick garlic peeling tips below, which allow us to handle a large bag of garlic quickly and, most importantly, without having to touch the garlic for a long time every time we cook.
1: Use the back of a knife to smash the garlic
You only need to prepare the following tools: Cutting board, kitchen knife, and of course garlic.
How to do it:
Place a clove of garlic straight on the cutting board, place the flat side of the knife on top of the clove, and hit the knife hard on the area where the clove is placed. When the clove is crushed, you can easily separate and peel the garlic skin.
2: Soak the garlic in hot water
Tools needed: Kitchen knife, hot water, and garlic.
How to do it: Use a knife to cut off the ends of the garlic cloves, then soak them in warm water at about 60-70 degrees for 10 to 30 minutes. Then, take out the garlic, the garlic skin will be soft and very easy to peel off.
However, this method may cause some loss of the garlic flavor, so after peeling, if you don’t use it right away, you need to freeze the garlic to keep it fresh and delicious.
3: Shake the garlic
Tools needed: A container with a lid, separated garlic cloves.
How to do it: Place the garlic cloves in the container and continuously shake it up and down after closing the lid. This action makes the garlic cloves collide with each other and with the container walls, gradually loosening the garlic skin, making it easy for you to peel off.
Note: with this method, you must keep the garlic cloves dry. If they are wet, the garlic skin will not peel off.
4: Peel garlic using a microwave
Tools needed: Garlic and microwave.
How to do it: Put the garlic in the microwave and heat it for about 5-7 seconds. The heated garlic skin will become dry and cracked, then you can take out the garlic and easily peel off the skin.
Note: you should not heat the garlic in the microwave for too long or at too high a temperature, as this can overcook the garlic and result in a loss of garlic flavor when cooking.
