Here are some surprising uses of a microwave.
Cooking rice
If your rice cooker is broken or you simply don’t want to use one because you’re cooking for one, you can put rice and water in a bowl, cover it, and put it in the microwave for about 10 minutes to have a meal.
Cleaning kitchen utensils
To clean a sponge, you can put a tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice in a bowl, place the sponge in it, and microwave for 30-60 seconds (or use a sponge soaked in a mixture of vinegar and water and place it directly in the microwave). This method is very effective in killing bacteria that can cause illness, but it should not be used with metal sponges.
You can also do the same with small plastic cutting boards. After cleaning the cutting board, you can rub lemon on the surface and microwave it for 1 minute.

Reduce eye irritation when peeling onions
If you don’t want your eyes to tear up when peeling or chopping onions, before you do so, put the onion in the microwave and microwave it for 10 to 40 seconds (depending on the size of the onion). The microwave will deactivate the sulfur compound, preventing your eyes from tearing up.
Peeling garlic
Put the garlic clove in the microwave and microwave it for 20 seconds, and you will find that peeling garlic becomes much easier.
Extracting more juice from citrus fruits
Put the citrus fruit in the microwave and microwave it for 20-30 seconds before squeezing it, and you will get more juice as the microwave softens the fruit.
Drying food and utensils
By adjusting the appropriate time, you can dry many items in the microwave or make dried meats, dried fruits… Just be careful not to burn the items by setting the time for too long.
