So, how long after consuming fermented sticky rice wine can you drive without worrying about being fined for alcohol concentration?
According to medical experts, the speed of alcohol elimination from the body depends on various factors, such as the type of beer/wine, alcohol concentration in beer/wine/food, drinking on a full or empty stomach, age, gender, genetics, weight of the drinker, etc.
It is certain that the more beer/wine or fermented sticky rice wine you consume, the higher the alcohol concentration in your body.
In addition, alcohol concentration also depends on the individual’s body and health condition. Some people may have consumed alcohol the night before but still have alcohol concentration in their blood and breath in the morning, while others may not.
According to the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), a standard drink contains 10g of alcohol, equivalent to: 1 small glass of strong liquor 40% ABV (30ml); 1 glass of wine 13.5% ABV (100ml); 1 can of beer 330ml; or 3/4 of a bottle (can) of 5% beer (330ml).
Therefore, to avoid being fined for alcohol concentration when participating in traffic, motorcycle riders should not consume more than 2 standard drinks, which is equivalent to 1.5 cans of beer or 2 glasses of wine.
For individuals with normal metabolism, the liver will absorb and metabolize 1 standard drink in 1 hour. However, it takes an additional 1-2 hours for the body to completely eliminate 1 standard drink.
People with impaired liver function or slower metabolism will take longer.
Based on calculations, alcohol concentration can still be detected in the blood after 6-12 hours, in breath after 12-24 hours, in urine after 36 hours, and in hair samples after 72 hours.
Currently, traffic police measure alcohol concentration using breathalyzers. Therefore, to ensure absolute safety, you should wait at least 24 hours after consuming alcohol or alcohol-containing food before driving.
In the case of consuming a small amount of alcohol, such as eating a small bowl of fermented sticky rice or drinking a few beers, it takes a minimum of 12 hours for the body to eliminate alcohol.
