  • 1 plastic basket
  • 1 burlap bag
  • 1 small plastic bottle
  • 1 piece of wire
  • Scissors
  • Potting soil
  • Paper cutter
  • Drill
  • Wire cutters

Instructions

Step 1 Use the drill to make drainage holes in the bottom of the basket. Also, use the wire cutters to cut off some of the plastic strips on the basket to create larger openings.

Step 2 Use one end of the wire to poke holes in the plastic bottle. You can make 3-4 rows of holes around the entire bottle.

Step 3 Place the burlap bag neatly inside the basket and stand the bottle with holes upright in the center. Then, fill the bag with soil so that it surrounds the bottle in the middle, as shown in the image.

Step 4 Use the paper cutter to cut the bag along the sides of the basket to create planting grooves. Then, take the prepared shallot bulbs and press them firmly into the soil, both above and around the holes in the basket, so that the soil covers about one-third to half of each bulb.

Note: You can cut off a small piece from the stem end of each shallot to make it easier for the bulbs to sprout.

Step 5 Pour water into the buried plastic bottle and close the lid. The water will seep out through the holes in the bottle, keeping the soil moist and promoting the growth of the shallots surrounding the basket.

Refill the bottle with water as needed. Also, lightly spray water on the surface of the exposed bulbs to keep them moist!
