Frozen Ginger
Love the spicy taste of fresh ginger but never use it up fast enough before it turns shriveled or moldy? Ginger can be stored in your refrigerator for a few weeks. To make it last longer, store it in your freezer. Clean, slice the ginger (no need to peel). Wrap tightly in foil or a freezer bag to prevent air exposure. It will stay fresh for at least 3 months.
Fish
What should you do when you buy too much fish? Fish meat is very delicate, and to keep it fresh, you need to know how to preserve it.
First, clean the internal organs of the fish. Then soak the fish meat in saltwater for 4-5 hours, scoop it out and let it dry. Finally, apply a layer of vegetable oil on both sides of the fish. Keep it in a naturally ventilated area, away from direct light, and it can be preserved for up to 5 days without spoilage.
Tofu
Tofu can stay fresh longer if soaked in brine, the more salt, the longer the tofu stays fresh.
When you bring tofu home, soak it in water, then add about 1/2 teaspoon of salt. With this method, the freshness of tofu can be preserved for a whole day. This is considered the simplest preservation method.
Eggs
Eggs left for a long time often become rotten due to small invisible holes in the shell. To keep eggs fresh, you need to find a way to seal the tiny holes in the shell to prevent external changes from affecting them.
Prepare a large container, sprinkle a layer of salt at the bottom, and then stack the eggs on top. Layer by layer, egg by egg, with each layer covered with salt. Make sure to fill the gaps between the eggs with salt. This method can preserve eggs for up to a year.
Air for Your Mushrooms
Mushrooms like to be kept cool and well-ventilated. A paper bag is a good choice. Release the mushrooms from their plastic food wrap, where they can retain moisture. They can be kept in the refrigerator for up to a week. Rinse them under cool water right before you cook.
Let Onions Breathe
Good airflow is the key to preventing onions from rotting. Store the whole onion without plastic wrap in a dry, cool, and ventilated place. If they are sold in a mesh bag, you can hang them on a hook in your pantry.
Or make a breathable storage place with an old, clean pair of pantyhose. Drop an onion in one foot and push it down to the toe, then tie a knot above it and drop another onion. The onions will keep for several weeks.
Silver Paper for Celery
Like most vegetables, celery is high in water content. It is also sensitive to ethylene. Keep your celery from wilting by tightly wrapping it in silver paper and storing it in the refrigerator drawer. Or you can wrap it in a dry paper towel and place it in a plastic tube. Celery will keep for a few weeks.
Your Lemon Bag
A fresh yellow citrus basket can brighten any kitchen counter. It is also an ideal place to dry lemons and turn your lemons into hard globes. But you can keep them fresh for up to a month. Wrap the lemons tightly in a storage plastic bag to eliminate air and place them in the refrigerator.
