Phú Yên is a charming coastal city in Vietnam, and summer is the perfect time to explore its beauty. In just 48 hours, you can immerse yourself in the tranquil and poetic scenery, enjoying both the sea and the delicious local cuisine.
Day 1
Morning
Start your day early to catch the sunrise at Dai Lanh Lighthouse, also known as Mui Dien Lighthouse. While the theoretical extreme eastern point of Vietnam is in Mui Doi, Khanh Hoa province, depending on the time of year, Mui Dien in Phu Yen can greet the sunrise first.
If you want to catch the sunrise at Mui Dien, make sure to be there by 5 am. The lighthouse is located in Dong Hoa district, about 30km southeast of Tuy Hoa city center. You can either walk the 1km trail and climb about 100 steps or take a motorbike taxi.
Dai Lanh (or Mui Dien) has beautiful sandy slopes. Walking along the trail, you can climb up to the lighthouse and take in the vast ocean view, spotting ships sailing by. It’s also a great spot for a sunrise check-in moment.
If you fancy a morning swim, head to Bai Mon beach, located at the foot of Mui Dien. With crystal clear waters and a refreshing atmosphere, it’s one of the most beautiful beaches in the area.
For breakfast, try the seafood porridge or noodle soup in Dai Lanh town, at the foot of Deo Ca. If you have some extra time, indulge in the specialty of fresh squid porridge, a delicious local treat.
On your way back to Tuy Hoa city, you’ll drive along the Mui Dien coastal road, one of the most beautiful seaside routes in Vietnam. Take a moment to admire Vung Ro Bay and learn about the Ho Chi Minh Trail on the sea. If you’re curious, you can also discover how locals catch lobsters and observe the fishermen’s way of life.
Afternoon – Evening
Around noon, you’ll be back in Tuy Hoa city to recharge with some local specialties. Phu Yen cuisine offers a variety of delicious dishes, including chicken rice, tuna, oyster porridge, and he fern soup. Be sure to try the mai fish salad, squid bun, and fresh seafood.
After a hearty lunch, let’s continue our journey to Nhạn Mountain. This mountain, about 60m above sea level, resembles a soaring swallow when viewed from a distance. On the mountain, there’s an ancient tower built in the architectural style of the Cham people.
From the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Tuy Hoa city and admire the blend of green hues from the sea, trees, and houses.
The afternoon is perfect for a seaside stroll or exploring the city of Tuy Hoa. You can hang out at Nghinh Phong Square, enjoy some snacks, and immerse yourself in the local coastal lifestyle.
Evening
For dinner, indulge in the local seafood delights. Some recommended spots include Nam Anh Seafood, Hoa Sua Tran Phu, Ba Tam Restaurant, and Cay Phuong Seafood.
If you prefer a lighter meal, walk along the beach and choose from various grilled seafood options. Don’t miss the famous bluefin tuna, a specialty of Phu Yen.
After dinner, head to the Sky Lounge on the rooftop of the Cendeluxe Hotel for a relaxing coffee while taking in the city’s night view.
Day 2
Morning
After a good night’s rest, wake up early again to catch the sunrise over the sea. To fully appreciate this magical moment, get up before 5 am and head to the beach in Tuy Hoa. The soft morning light reflects beautifully on the water, creating a serene atmosphere.
Enjoy breakfast at a seaside restaurant or along the way, trying local specialties like he fern soup, seafood soup, steamed rice cakes, grilled fermented pork and rice cakes, or rice flour cakes.
On the second morning, we’ll head north of Tuy Hoa to visit Ganh Da Dia, one of the most famous scenic spots in Phu Yen. From a distance, Ganh Da Dia resembles a giant beehive with square pillars stretching out to sea.
The black stone beach stands out against the blue sea and white foam, creating a harmonious and peaceful scene. You’ll also spot the fishermen’s coracle boats docked along the shore, adding to the poetic beauty of this place.
Afternoon – Evening
Around noon, make your way to Mang Lang Church, one of the oldest churches in Vietnam, located on the banks of the Ky Lo River (locally known as Song Cai).
The church is designed in the Gothic architectural style, featuring intricate floral decorations and a simple grayish-blue color scheme, giving it a sense of antiquity and mystery.
At these tourist spots, you’ll find plenty of seafood specialties to choose from. To make your journey more convenient and time-efficient, consider bringing your own snacks, like bread, water, and canned foods.
After a refreshing break, head to O Loan Lagoon. Take a stroll, admire the scenery, and wait for the sunset. As the day fades, the sunset over the lagoon is truly mesmerizing.
While at the lagoon, don’t miss the chance to taste the famous blood cockle seafood at the floating restaurants. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from.
Evening
As the sun sets, make your way back to the city center for dinner. Afterward, you can enjoy a coffee and take in the city’s evening ambiance before bidding farewell to the charming Phu Yen.
In just two days, you’ve explored the beauty of Phu Yen, a place known for its healing powers for travelers seeking a tranquil escape. We hope this guide has inspired your next adventure!
